30-Hour Teaching English to Young Learners
interactive · 30

A 30 hour online TESOL/TEFL specialist course for teachers who already hold an initial TEFL/TESOL certificate. It covers the whole school-age range, from kindergarten children who cannot yet read to teenagers preparing for exams, and it is studied entirely in your browser. You have up to 6 months to complete it.
Why this course
Get it right and there is nothing like the satisfaction of teaching a class of young learners. But a room of energetic children is a completely different prospect from a room of adults, and most of what works with adults does not transfer. Children do not learn a rule by being told it. They learn through stories, songs, games and movement, and the language arrives with the activity rather than before it.
Most young learner courses stop at primary. This one carries on through the teenage years, which is the group teachers most often find themselves in front of and the group least well served by other training. It also covers keeping children safe, which was not in the previous version of this course at all.
How the course works
The course is interactive and runs in your browser on a PC, Mac or tablet. There are 15 modules and 339 pages, and your place is saved as you go, so you can stop mid-module and pick up later on a different device.
Short knowledge checks inside each module mark themselves the moment you answer, so you find out straight away whether something has landed. The work that shows your teaching ability - the written tasks, the reflections and a full assessed lesson plan at the end - goes to a real, qualified personal tutor who reads it and writes you individual feedback. You can message your tutor from inside your student area at any point.
Who it is for
This is a specialist course rather than a first qualification, so it assumes you already hold an initial TEFL/TESOL certificate, or are taking one alongside it. If you are starting from scratch, begin with our 120 hour TESOL Premier certificate and add this course to it.
Our courses are open to all native and non-native English speakers with good written and spoken English. If you are a non-native English speaker, please see the course eligibility requirements on our FAQ page, and do ask us if you are not sure about your level. We also welcome applications from schools wishing to train their teachers in-house.
Duration
The course is approximately 30 study hours and most people finish in 3 to 4 weeks of part-time study, though you can go faster or slower. Because many of our trainees are balancing work and family, we allow up to 6 months for completion, and low-cost extensions are available beyond that.
Everything you need to complete the course and gain your certificate is included in the fee. Printed and embossed certificate available for an extra fee.
This course blends perfectly with any other Global English accredited course - add one at checkout for an additional 10% discount. It is also included in our 120 hour TESOL Premier course.

Why some sites list us separately
Review sites list Global English TESOL under its own name, and TEFL Global is not listed there as a separate school. That is correct: they are two brands. TEFL Global sells the courses and Global English delivers, marks and certifies them.
