20-Hour Teaching English to Kindergarten and Primary Learners
interactive · 20

A 20 hour online TESOL/TEFL specialist course for teachers who already hold an initial TEFL/TESOL certificate, focused entirely on the youngest learners: kindergarten, pre-school and primary, ages 3 to 11. It is studied entirely in your browser, and you have up to 6 months to complete it.
Why this course
Get it right and there is nothing like the satisfaction of teaching a class of pre-schoolers or primary learners. It is also the age group teachers find hardest to plan for, because many of these children cannot yet read or write in any language, let alone in English.
This course helps you manage, motivate and succeed with the 3 to 11 range: how very young children pick up language, how to run a lesson built on routine and repetition, how to make yourself understood without translating, how to keep a young classroom under control, and how to keep the children in it safe.
How the course works
The course is interactive and runs in your browser on a PC, Mac or tablet. There are 14 modules and 285 pages, and your place is saved as you go, so you can stop mid-module and pick up later on a different device.
Short knowledge checks inside each module mark themselves the moment you answer. The written tasks, the reflections and a full assessed lesson plan at the end go to a real, qualified personal tutor who reads them and writes you individual feedback. You can message your tutor from inside your student area at any point.
Is this the right course for me?
Take this course if you know you are working with kindergarten or primary children and want a focused, shorter qualification at a lower price. If you want the full 3 to 17 range including teenagers, or you are not yet sure which age group you will end up teaching, take our 30 hour Teaching English to Young Learners course instead. That course covers these ages too, so there is no need to take both.
Who it is for
This is a specialist course rather than a first qualification, so it assumes you already hold an initial TEFL/TESOL certificate, or are taking one alongside it. Our courses are open to all native and non-native English speakers with good written and spoken English. If you are a non-native English speaker, please see the course eligibility requirements on our FAQ page, and do ask us if you are not sure about your level. We also welcome applications from schools wishing to train their teachers in-house.
Duration
The course is approximately 20 study hours and most people finish in 2 to 3 weeks of part-time study, though you can go faster or slower. We allow up to 6 months for completion, and low-cost extensions are available beyond that.
Everything you need to complete the course and gain your certificate is included in the fee. Printed and embossed certificate available for an extra fee.

Why some sites list us separately
Review sites list Global English TESOL under its own name, and TEFL Global is not listed there as a separate school. That is correct: they are two brands. TEFL Global sells the courses and Global English delivers, marks and certifies them.
